WP1: Single sludge denitrification

About

In work package 1 of CLEANAQ the technology for single-sludge denitrification will be developed and optimized for the salinities found within the Baltic sea region in experimental and pilot-scale industrial setup in Denmark.

Objectives

  • Quantify the theoretically and practically available C:N of fish waste.
  • Optimize hydrolysis and fermentation process yields and products obtained from fish faeces.
  • Evaluate the denitrification potential using the readily available carbon sources generated in the hydrolysis fermentation process.
  • Design, construct and evaluate the capacity of an industrial pilot scale single-sludge denitrification reactor.

Tasks

  • Quantify the theoretically and practically available C:N of fish waste.
  • Characterize the hydrolysis/fermentation yields and products obtained from the fish faeces. 
  • Evaluate the potential and rate of denitrification using the readily available carbon sources generated in the hydrolysis/fermentation process. 
  • Increase the yields of the readily available carbon sources.
  • Evaluate under pilot industrial scale conditions a single-sludge denitrifying reactor.
